Alessio Roberto
Amsterdam-based photographer exploring how human-made structures meet the organic pulse of urban life. I learned photography in the 1990s with my father and analogue cameras, a foundation that still guides my process today. In 2019, I returned to instant film through Polaroid, and in 2021, I expanded back to 35mm and 120, embracing the slower, more intentional rhythm of film. My ongoing series, Play with My City, uses a split-lens and double exposures on Polaroid and 35mm/120film to fold architecture, nature, and movement into layered cityscapes. The aim is to reveal the city’s dual nature everyday and dreamlike within a single frame. I work across analogue and digital, with a clear preference for film’s constraints and surprises. Subjects gravitate toward architecture, flowers, and cityscapes. My photographs have been shown in group exhibitions and printed features across Europe, Japan, and the United States, including Bologna, Milan, Trieste, Tokyo, Paris, Athens, and New York.
