Bio

Babak Haghi (b. 1982, Tabriz, Iran) is an Iranian visual artist working across staged photography, portraiture, and video. He began his career in theatre photography in 2012, studying visual arts under the mentorship of Hafez Miraftabi. This early engagement with theatre continues to shape the performative quality of his practice. Haghi’s work explores the body as a site of identity, vulnerability, and fluid femininity. Through carefully constructed images, he investigates body language as a nonverbal form of expression that challenges fixed notions of gender and reveals hidden dimensions of desire, memory, and selfhood. He has held eight solo exhibitions in Iran and London and participated in more than sixty group exhibitions internationally, including India Art Fair (2020), Position Berlin Art Fair (2023), and a group exhibition with Evidences in Paris (2025). Alongside his photographic practice, he experiments with historical and hand-printing processes in his studio.
