Ornella Marchese

Ornella Marchese is a Uruguayan visual artist, photographer, and filmmaker working between documentary and experimental image practices. Her work combines observational, digital, and analogue experimental practices, moving between documentary language and more intuitive, subjective ways of seeing. In 2022, after a journey to the Ecuadorian Amazon, her documentary practice became a central focus, where she began developing a long-term project around Indigenous knowledge, territory, and the natural world. Since then, she has continued developing personal projects and facilitating photography and filmmaking workshops in Uruguay, Mexico, and Ecuador. Alongside her practice, she is completing her first documentary short film, Guardianas, and working on long-term projects that explore ecological crisis, intimacy, and lived relationships with the natural world.
