My name is Paul Abbah (Professionally known as Kothegrapher) and I am a self-taught photographer from Nigeria. I grew up in a satellite town on the outskirts of Abuja, the nation's capital. I discovered photography at the age of 18 and purchased my first camera a year later, during my first year at the University of Abuja, where I studied Sociology. Through my lens, I explore the fragile intersections of time, hope, melancholy, faith, youth, and freedom. In my words, my art is a "visual representation of the noise in my head". It's how I communicate with the world around me. My pictures of young figures leaping, pausing, resisting, treat motion as testimony: proof of freedom, of becoming, of a culture and of connection. In the beginning of my practice, I created photographs on my digital camera and edited them on my mobile phone. I mainly color my images, never really manipulating them. I still color my photographs on my mobile phone as part of my professional practice now.
