My grandmother in her nursing home in the Netherlands, 2026. Although she has lived in the Netherlands for decades, she still carries a deep sense of displacement. My grandfather, who has Alzheimer’s, spends much of his time mentally returning to Turkey in the 1970s. He speaks as if he is still there, moving between memory and present reality. Their longing reflects a migration that was never fully resolved, a life lived between places, where the body remains here while the mind continually returns "home".
