Category-The physical: architecture, territory, shelter, borders. In this image, "Home" is a profound negotiation between cultural preservation and geopolitical reality. The photograph features an elderly woman seated inside her traditional home in Garkone, a remote village in the Aryan Valley of Ladakh, India. Home to the unique Brokpa community, Garkone is not only culturally distinct but geographically volatile,positioned extremely close to the Line of Control (LOC). During the 1999 Kargil War, this very room, like many in Garkone, was transformed from a domestic sanctuary into a strategic asset. While battles raged nearby, these homes served as a crucial base for logistics and shelter.
