Martin Wani Samson fled from Mukaya and now lives with his family and siblings in the IDP camp in Atende, near Yei, South Sudan. Limited access to food, cramped tents and distant healthcare shape their days. Access to water is difficult, with the nearest point far away and used by more than 20,000 people. Queues often last hours, adding to the burden of life without school or nearby medical care. To survive, families collect firewood or burn charcoal, sometimes facing restrictions from the host community. Martin says: “Our stay is not comfortable. There is no water, no school, and the hospital is far. We aim for peace. There is no other place like home.”
