One in eight. A statistic that reflects the scale of breast cancer, yet says little about the lives behind it. This project grew from a desire to look beyond the language of medicine. Rather than focusing on diagnosis, treatment or survival, it explores the everyday realities of people whose lives have been directly or indirectly shaped by breast cancer. Through moments of work, changing bodies, intimacy, care, solitude and remembrance, these photographs reveal how illness becomes woven into ordinary life. I was not interested in documenting breast cancer itself, but in photographing its human presence—how it transforms relationships, reshapes identity and lingers in the quiet moments that often go unseen. Its impact does not end with a diagnosis or treatment. It remains in the body, in everyday gestures, in the presence of loved ones, and sometimes in the space they leave behind. This is not a story about illness alone. It is a story about the lives it touches.
