From 2019 to 2021, I sought close contact with people who collect curious objects—items whose motivations may at first seem eccentric, peculiar, or somewhat detached. This picture shows the house of a collector of clocks. Frank Ochmann, the former head of finance at a demolition company, began his collecting career at a time when many companies were winding up in the mid-1990s.
