My sister, Miranda, lies in the sunlight, a picture of quiet contemplation, set against the scenery of a dying tree, birds and the sky glowing with sunshine. After an emotional and challenging few months for my family, we spent the last days of the year on the road, reflecting on the difficulties overcome and seeking closure to move forward. I repeatedly find I look back on these recollections in a nostalgic illusion; a hazy lens distorts and shapes my memories to fit my desires.
