Matthias Gephart

Matthias Gephart started his adventure into Graffiti Writing and photography in 1988, exploring the post-industrial abandoned landscapes of the Ruhr area. Since 2003, Matthias’ studio Disturbanity Graphics engages in a wide field of visual genres, displaying his endless passion for combining, mixing, and crossing stylistic borders. Disturbanity became known for both unusual freelance and personal art. Matthias` RARE SHOTS ON PLANET X — a 416-page journey through works from 1988 to 2015 — was awarded by New York’s art journal Creative Quarterly. Photography holds a special position in the Disturbanity portfolio, serving as an artistic passion, a documentary tool, and as unique collage-material. Landscapes, portraits, alienating perspectives, hidden treasures and images of unreal locations appear connected in dream-like structures. In addition to these works, Matthias has spent decades documenting his environment within the Graffiti scene as well as the underworlds of music culture.
