Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I create a profile?
Sign up with your email address and create an account. Once registered, you can add your bio, social media links, and information about your work.
2. Is creating a profile free?
Yes, creating and maintaining a profile is completely free.
3. What can I do with a profile?
You can submit to Open Calls and apply for approval to become publicly visible on the platform.
4. Do I need a profile to submit to an Open Call?
Yes, but you don't need to be approved. A basic profile is enough to submit to any Open Call. Approval is only about making your profile public to the wider community.
5. Can I keep my profile private?
Yes. Profiles start out private. You can submit to Open Calls without ever making your profile public. Approval is always optional.
6. Why should I apply for approval?
Approval makes your profile public. You'll get your own Fotografiska URL and your work will be visible to curators, collaborators, and the global Emerging community.
7. What are the requirements for approval?
We're looking for a profile that gives a real sense of who you are and how you work. Fotografiska Emerging is open to photographers at all stages and across all genres: documentary, fine art, editorial, experimental, personal work, phone photography, and everything in between.
Please upload at least 5 images that reflect your intention and approach, and write a complete bio that genuinely introduces you: your background, your practice, what you're drawn to. A line or a job title isn't enough. We also ask for some form of online presence (a website, social media, Behance, Vimeo, etc.) so we can verify that you are who you say you are. It doesn't have to be big; it just needs to exist.
There are no requirements for formal education or professional credentials. What we're looking for is intentionality.
8. How does the approval process work?
Our team reviews your profile: your images, bio, artistic direction, and overall completeness. The process exists to keep this a space that's genuinely built for and by artists, where the work is taken seriously. We'll notify you as soon as a decision is made.
9. How long does approval usually take?
Timelines vary depending on the number of applications. We'll notify you as soon as possible.
10. Who reviews profiles for approval?
Members of the Fotografiska Emerging team.
11. What do I receive once I'm approved?
Your profile goes public, you get your own Fotografiska URL, and your work appears in the Explore Tab where the community can discover you.
12. Can I edit my profile after approval?
Yes, you can update your images, bio, and other details at any time.
13. What happens to my profile if I'm inactive?
Nothing changes automatically. Your profile and URL remain yours unless you choose to delete them or make them private.
14. Can I change my username or Fotografiska URL later?
In some cases, yes. Reach out to our team, and we'll help.
15. If I'm not approved, can I reapply?
Yes, as many times as you like. Common reasons for not being approved include an incomplete bio, fewer than 5 images, or no verifiable online presence.
16. Do I keep the rights to my images and text?
Yes. Your work remains yours and will only be used within the platform, never beyond that without your permission, in line with our Terms and Conditions.
17. Can I delete my profile?
Yes, at any time. Keep in mind this will also remove your submissions and related data from the platform.
