Bio

Michal Zahornacký (b. 1988) is a Slovak photographer based in Brno, Czech Republic, working primarily with portrait and conceptual photography. His work explores identity, perception, and the instability of visual representation through experimental techniques and physical interventions rather than digital manipulation. Since 2013 he has developed several long-term projects, including CLOSE, CURVES, and KARTOON, which question the boundaries of portraiture and photographic illusion. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Lishui Photo Festival, Yixian Photo Festival and Beijing Hanjian Art Gallery in China, as well as at OFF Bratislava and Paradajs Photo Festival. In 2025 his project KARTOON was presented at Fotográfica Bogotá at Centro Nacional de las Artes. He published his first book CLOSE in 2021 in collaboration with designer Matus Stenko.
