Downtown Kingston reflects Jamaica’s trajectory since gaining independence in 1962. Many historic buildings, shaped by British colonial administration, fell into disrepair as limited resources in the early years of independence stalled upkeep. Today, government agencies are restoring these structures and seeking private partners to counteract decades of neglect and preserve the city’s architectural heritage. (Kingston, Jamaica)
