Israa Alrrayah

In July 2023, Al-Mikailab village, south of Berber, became a sanctuary for hundreds of families fleeing the war across Sudan. Captured on a mobile phone, this image documents a dilapidated building that displaced women and local villagers transformed into a vital community space. Gathering to recite prophetic praises (Madih) and play the traditional Tar drum, these women expanded this fragile shelter into a platform for social dialogue, discussing and solving the community's problems together.
