This portrait depicts the elderly Armenian Archdeacon who, uprooted by genocide, found refuge in the Armenian Church of Crete, where he has served since the age of eight. Within these walls, his liturgical chanting is not mere religious devotion but an act of resistance against cultural erasure and alienation. For a community carrying the cross of historical exile, the church functions as a spiritual homeland — a space where language, memory, and faith become a sanctuary in which to stand.
