« The Heirs of Silence » The Heirs of Silence is a photographic project that explores the quiet strength of Burundian women who wear their natural hair not as a trend, but as an expression of identity, dignity, and cultural continuity. In their daily lives at the market, at home, in the fields, or at school their hair becomes an extension of themselves: practical, simple, and deeply rooted. While economic realities often make salons and hair products inaccessible, this choice goes beyond material constraint. It reflects a collective memory where hair symbolized beauty, belonging, and power within the clan and the kingdom. Through intimate portraits, the project honors these women mothers, merchants, cultivators, students as heirs of gestures passed down through generations. They embody a beauty free from artifice : a silent, resilient beauty, grounded in history and self-acceptance.
