Virginia Hines

Virginia Hines is a photographer and author based in San Francisco, California. She is a frequent contributor to Street Photography Magazine, which featured her in its Year of Women Photographers and several podcast interviews. Her photos have appeared in many other print and digital publications, including Smithsonianmag.com, Portrait of Humanity, The Lancet Global Health (cover), and L'Oeil de la Photographie. Her photos have been exhibited internationally by organizations such as the Griffin Museum of Photography, Lucie Foundation, and International Photography Hall of Fame, and designated Mastershots by Leica Fotographie International. She has written essays for three photography books, including the introduction to Harvey Stein's monograph Coney Island People 50 Years (Schiffer, 2022) and the foreword to Where the Streets Lead (Street Photography Magazine, 2025). Her book Scenic and Historic Islands of San Francisco Bay, for Photographer's America, was published in November 2025.
