Zhe Zhang
Zhe Zhang is a Chinese independent photographer whose practice centers on analog film and intimate portraiture. Working primarily with 35mm film, his images explore the subtle psychological space between photographer and subject, where observation, performance, and vulnerability quietly intersect. Often set within private interiors, Zhang’s photographs emerge through close collaborations with friends, dancers, and performers. Using the immediacy of direct flash and the tactile qualities of film, he captures moments that oscillate between spontaneity and staging. The resulting images inhabit a fragile territory between tenderness and tension, revealing the body as both a site of presence and a surface of projection. Rooted in everyday encounters, Zhang’s work reflects on intimacy, identity, and the quiet negotiations that unfold within the act of being seen.
