Sandro Aguilar

Peruvian visual artist whose practice has developed through the coexistence of two disciplines: photography and literature. This dual level of observation sharpens his gaze, which moves between the evidence of time and the vitality that can emerge from a deteriorating environment. In recent years, he has included Europe and Central America in his artistic map. Aguilar’s work articulates the connections between past and present, taking the form of either a documentary trajectory or a performative composition built around remnants of the periphery. In his practice, he has reclaimed the artisanal technique of light painting (the physical movement of light during a long exposure), whose name serves as the starting point for the production of series that connect photography and painting. Some of his works propose a form of geographical continuity, extending across different countries where the same subject is represented in distinct contexts. He lives and works in Peru and Costa Rica.
