Marcelo Prais
Marcelo Prais (São Paulo, 1972) is a Brazilian photographer, researcher, and visual artist whose research investigates memory as a living, material, relational process. His practice explores how memory inhabits bodies, objects, images, places, and relationships—and how it changes between them. Working through photography, Prais brings photographs, archives, objects, landscapes, bodies, gestures, and materials, moving between personal memory and collective memory, documentary traces and imagined narratives. Rather than evidence of the past, these elements become agents that trigger, carry, transform, and produce memory. In recent years, his research has developed around Memory, Finitude, Body, and Alterity, investigating time, permanence, transformation, presence, absence, identity, ancestry, and human connection. For Prais, photography is a space of encounter between visible and invisible, presence and absence, remembering and imagining—where memory can persist, transform, and return.
